Position Summary

Posting Note: As an Ophthalmic Assistant in this high-volume practice, you will bring your energy and enthusiasm to welcome our little patients and parents. You will provide administrative support and ensure that patients are flowing through the office. This is a great learning opportunity to develop patient care skills in the field of Ophthalmology. The position will require working out of 2 offices in the Mesa area. Schedule: M-F 7:45 to 4:45 Locations: 1220 South Higley Rd, Mesa, AZ 85206 (Three days/week) And 2045 South Vineyard Building, Mesa AZ 85210 (Two days/week) Requirements: 1. One or more years of experience working in a healthcare or pediatric setting. 2. Current BLS Certification for Healthcare Provider from the American Heart Association. 3. High School Diploma or Equivalent 4. Administrative and Patient Care work experience. 5. Strong customer service skills serving our children and their parents.

The Ophthalmic Assistant works under the direction of the practice provider and supports the functions of the ophthalmic technician. This position performs various clinical and administrative tasks for the assigned area.

Position Duties

  1. As directed by a physician, prepares patients for examination and treatment. This includes obtaining patient history, documenting allergies, obtains current vision measurement, maintains medication list, and generating surgical consent forms. Assists the provider and technician in the course of the patient encounter as requested.
  2. Provides throughput support to assist in the efficiencies of patient flow, including assisting with the intake and discharge processes.
  3. Administers medications such as eye drops under physicians written order.
  4. Prepares exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments.
  5. Assists in the maintenance of supplies and equipment for treatment, including sterilization.
  6. Demonstrates infection control standards related to hand washing and standard precautions.
  7. Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
