Position Summary

This position calls for an individual to lead business operations and financial planning and analysis (FP&A) activities for all acute care laboratories and the associated pathology physician medical practice in the Department of Pathology and Lab Medicine (DPLM). The Manager provides business guidance by leveraging data-enabled insights in all laboratory operations. The Manager supports the VP of Lab, hospital executives, and collaborates with the Division Chief of Pathology/medical directors in the development of goals and priorities. The Manager leads the development of business plans, annual budgets, oversight of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting, strategic sourcing activities. The Manager also provides general leadership for contracting, data analytics, billing, invoicing, and new business development activities. The incumbent provides supervision, mentoring, and creates an environment of continual training and development for assigned staff.

Position Duties

  1. Develops monthly financial reports and KPI to track operational and financial performance for the clinical laboratory, blood bank, outpatient and genomics services.
  2. Reviews and summarizes monthly reports and KPI with lab operational supervisors, managers, Medical Directors/Section heads. Presents monthly financial summary and trends to Vice President and Department Head.
  3. Assists in dashboard development to review monthly metrics and trending for presentation to the monthly operating review meeting chaired by the COO.
  4. Partners with Financial Decision Support to develop and assist with operational and strategic business plans for the department, including forecasting of ROI, and NPV for new staff and equipment.
  5. Partners with legal services to oversee lab contracting process with key vendors (equipment, group purchasing organizations (GPO)), outsourced services, Reference lab oversight, lab outreach service providers, and managed care organizations.
  6. Develops business case for, implements, then oversees call-center services for the clinical laboratory (as appropriate).
  7. Partners with VP and Departmental Head to develop an effective lab-utilization and resource stewardship program.
  8. Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
