Position Summary

Under the direction and supervision of the PCMG Senior Vice President & Chief Operating Officer (SVP & COO), this position provides strategic leadership and oversight for Phoenix Childrens Hospitals (PCHs) East Valley Market (the Market), and operational leadership and oversight to the PCH portion of the PCH/Dignity Mercy Gilbert Joint Venture (the Children`s Hospital or Joint Venture) to ensure ongoing successful operations and continued growth and development in the future.

Position Duties

  1. Delivery of Healthcare Services
    • a. Overall responsibility for the design, marketing, promotion, delivery, risk management and quality of all healthcare programs and services provided at the Hospital.
    • b.Ensures that policies and practices effectively support sound and safe patient care, and that the delivery of healthcare services provides the highest level of a positive experience to the patient.
  2. Collaboration with PCH and Joint Venture Partners
    • Responsible for maintaining continual, open and effective communications with the appropriate members of the PCH medical staff, his/her peers across PCH and all members of the PCH executive team, and all Joint Venture partners.
  3. Medical Staff Liaison
    • a.Facilitates relationships between the physicians, the Hospital, clinics, and other services provided by PCH in the East Valley.
    • b.Works closely with PCH physician leadership to support our physicians through recruiting, continuing education opportunities, medical staff and physician referral compliance education and implementation, and medical staff development.
    • c.Recognizes the ongoing strength and success of PCH in the market relies heavily on the strength and success of our medical staff and engages them accordingly.
    • d.Participates in issues surrounding ethics and quality
  4. Compliance
    • Ensures the Hospital complies with local, state and federal laws and regulations as they apply to their operations.
  5. Financial Management
    • a.Recommends yearly budget for approval and ensures prudent management of resources within budget guidelines according to current laws and regulations.
    • b.Conducts or oversees the negotiation of professional, consultant and service contracts.
    • c.Ensures that appropriate internal and management controls are established and maintained.
  6. Human Resource Management
    • a.Organizes the functional structure of the Hospital through appropriate delegation, and establishes a formal means of accountability for those assigned duties.
    • b.Ensures effective management of the human resources of the Hospital according to current, authorized personnel policies and procedures that fully conform to current laws and regulations. Completes annual evaluations for direct reports in a timely and effective manner.
  7. Facilities Management
    • Oversees the preservation of the asset value of the Hospital’s capital investments, oversees the management of construction and facility rehabilitation activities, and ensures disaster and emergency preparedness activities are appropriately planned, exercised, and documented.
  8. Strategic Planning
    • a.Stays current with general trade and industry conditions and their potential impact on the East Valley Market’s operations and develops the short-term and long-term strategic plan for the market.
    • b.Ensures the strategic plan is articulated both internally and externally, and effectively delegates key activities to ensure timely execution of the strategic plan initiatives.
  9. Community and Public Relations
    • a.Through exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, assures that the PCH’s services in the East Valley Market are consistently presented in a strong, positive image to relevant stakeholders, including patients, physicians, employees, and benefactors.
    • b.As the ‘face’ of PCH in the East Valley Market, the incumbent will be actively involved in the community through service organization membership, speaking engagements, community forums, educational offerings and other opportunities to communicate PCH’s Mission.
    • c.Ensures effective coordination of activities between the Hospital and other PCH providers in the East Valley Market.
    • d.Participates in fundraising planning and implementation in collaboration with Foundation leadership.
    • e.Plays an instrumental fundraising role which includes identifying resource requirements, and in developing and cultivating relationships that will support and enhance fundraising efforts, collaborating with the PCH Foundation in researching funding sources, establishing
