Position Summary

Posting Note: **Mon-Fri Days, 12pm-8:30pm** -- $12.80 - $17.00 DOE (+shift diff)

This position supports the Behavioral Health unit by assisting in delivering outstanding therapeutic quality care, assisting in the coordination of care from admission through discharge, providing administrative support to the department to ensure the efficient and effective provision of information across the continuum of care, and collaborating with parents, physicians, and other health care providers to ensure optimal internal and external customer satisfaction

Position Duties

  1. Customer Service
    • Assists in education of parents regarding behavioral/emotional techniques and support
    • Serves as positive role model for patients and families by consistently maintaining positive relationships and appropriate boundaries
    • Demonstrates resourcefulness in finding solutions to customer needs
  2. Utilization Review Process
    • Obtains authorizations for inpatient hospitalization and for services upon patient discharge
    • Assists with the oversight of the utilization review process by maintaining documentation of the clinical review process, retrieving faxed or telephone requests, identifying appropriate case managers and providers, and forwarding information to appropriate payor sources
    • Works with the identified financial counselor to ensure verification of insurance coverage and eligible benefits of parent/guardian
    • Provides for timely, effective and accurate patient registration, charge entry, and other financial processing functions in accordance with established customer service and quality standards
    • Completes discharge utilization review by providing the discharge clinicals to the payor source
  3. Throughput and Care Coordination
    • As requested by treatment team, contacts and provides basic information to referral facilities, agencies, or services to facilitate care delivery and efficient discharge/transfer
    • Completes tasks related to discharge to home/community as assigned by the treatment team
    • Serves as clerical support to Bio-behavioral Department as needed to provide for timely responses to admission inquiries
    • Arranges for family conferences as requested by Social Worker
    • Arranges follow up appointments
  4. Teamwork
    • Actively participates in staff and team meetings
    • Assists the physician, RN, Social Worker and other treatment team members in decision-making to ensure complete and appropriate information is shared
    • Identifies opportunities to improve processes and/or systems
    • Influences coworkers in a positive direction
    • Participates in cooperative efforts by contributing to discussions, listening to others' ideas, and supporting group concensus
    • Accepts any challenges within the hospital and/or unit as a shared responsibility
    • Respects differing viewpoints even when in conflict with their own
  5. Communication
    • Identifies and reports any pertinent psychological, medical, and psychosocial data to the treatment team
    • Shares complete and unbiased information in an open and professional manner
    • Documents unusual occurrences, accidents and incidents in the appropriate reporting format
    • Demonstrates effective written and verbal communication skills
  6. Therapeutic interventions
    • Responds to crisis situations appropriately, effectively, and calmly to ensure safety of patients and others.
    • Provides therapeutic care to patients in their daily routines, including meals, school sessions, social and education groups, and activities of daily living to assist in achievement of established treatment plan outcomes for modification of behavior as indicated
    • Implements behavior management protocols in a safe manner by setting clearly defined limits and utilizing effective therapeutic interventions
  7. Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
