Position Summary

This position will perform a variety of direct patient care services to assist in the implementation of selected portions of the care plan as directed and supervised by a physician, mid-level provider, and/or clinical nurse.

Position Duties

  1. Completes nursing assessment of patients' condition consistent with age and condition, including physical, psychological, social, developmental, and educational factors, to determine initial level of compliance with treatment plan per policy and unit guidelines. Performs ongoing patient/family assessment and identifies variation from diagnoses.
  2. Continually evaluates patients' response to care, teaching, and discharge plan. Documents patient progress in appropriate charts and shares observations and assessment outcomes with health care team and family to ensure timely communication and understanding of patient health status, progress, and ongoing needs.
  3. Identifies and reports unusual findings or observations, clinical symptoms, behaviors, and treatment administered to appropriate healthcare professional to ensure timely and effective intervention.
  4. Maintains inventory levels of stock items, supplies, and equipment to provide for efficient and cost effective unit operation
  5. Maintains professional and technical competency through regular participation in a variety of educational programs and in-services, reviewing relevant professional publication and materials, and participating in professional societies to ensure ongoing awareness and understanding of most current methodologies, practices, and philosophies as applied to patient care population.
  6. Participates in a variety of in-service programs, meetings, conferences, and daily care rounds to maintain understanding of care plan changes, issues, and expectations.
  7. Performs a variety of activities to provide for the ongoing maintenance of the unit's environment.
  8. Works collaboratively with patient care team and family members to establish and implement plan of care to ensure coordination of activities and ongoing communication of patient health status. Participates in patient care rounds and patient care conferences as appropriate.
  9. Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
