This position is responsible for supporting Risk Management Leadership with the implementation and administration the self-insured program using the Phoenix Children's Hospital captive insurance company, Cambridge Arizona Insurance Company (CAIC). Acts as a key adviser in the areas of decision making, mitigating risks where appropriate relating to insurance policies, and incident investigation. This position is responsible for maintaining the continuity of all insurance programs including monitoring the broker and captive insurance company managers.

Position Duties

  1. 1.Under the direction of Risk Management Leadership and PCH counsel, manages activities involving the Phoenix Children's Hospital captive insurance company, Cambridge Arizona Insurance Company (CAIC) and other insurance programs.
    • oWorks collaborative with Risk Management, Finance, and Legal leaders to develop and negotiate the insurance programs in order to minimize the adverse impact on the financial performance of the organization through the use of commercial insurance, self-insurance and deductible programs. This includes but is not limited to property, auto, directors and officers liability, general and professional liability, workers compensation, fiduciary, aviation, and underground storage tanks. This will include risk assessment, risk mitigation, and decision processes involving all insurance policies and claims.
    • oFacilitates interactions with various underwriters and insurance brokers to negotiate rates and premiums for the systems and present materials regarding the company to various insurance carriers.
    • oAssists in the activities of insurance brokers, captive risk management consultants and other consultants as needed for risk management. Directs and oversees the exposure information pertaining to insurance coverage, to ensure adequacy and appropriate coverage to minimize risk. Oversees the application process for all lines of insurance coverage.
    • oCoordinates the collection of exposure and loss information for actuarial analysis. Leads and supports internal and external audits by writing narratives and coordinating with the captive manager to gather and compile requested policy information, premium allocation and captive practices. Oversees the billing and collection of insurance premium, broker fees and captive manager fees.
    • oHandles insurance related requests to include working with captive manager and/or broker to address coverage issues and obtain insurance certificates.
    • oProvides administrative support for CAIC board meetings by managing the agenda and creating books and other preparation material. Coordinates the review of contracts for insurance coverage to be provided by PCH. Be able to address the concerns and make recommendation when needed.
  2. 2.May facilitate responding to records requests, litigation discovery requests, and other related requests.
  3. 3.Oversees the negotiation settlements of patient property, property, and auto claims made against the company or on behalf of the company to minimize the adverse financial impact on loss.
    • oIs responsible for overseeing the submission of first level claim information for patient property, auto liability and property claim to include management investigations.
  4. 4.Assist in the development of the insurance budget. Monitors all payments including but not limited to the professional and general liability claims, auto liability, property liability and patient property claims. Ensures the premiums are paid within the time frame allotted to avoid penalties.
    • oVerifying and monitoring all payments for claims and non-claims related expenses to ensure they are properly coded, fall within the scope contract and fit within the budgeted Parameters
  5. 5.Assumes an active role in planning and decision making efforts through membership in various hospital, clinic, and ambulatory committees. Provides consultative advice to leaders regarding patient safety and risk management issues. Collaborates with various departments in developing or revising policies and procedures to mitigate risk exposure to the company.
  6. Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
