Under the supervision of the Director of Patient and Family Centered Care, the Manager is responsible to provide day to day management and oversight of Child Life programs (including the Child Life Zone and Adaptive Care) and Therapeutic Arts. The Manager is responsible for the planning, development and execution of strategic objectives for departments and programs assigned. Accountable for demonstrating a commitment to providing high quality patient care and service through positive leadership and total quality management. Manager will serve as a resource to patients, families and staff, as well as collaborate with organizational leaders to enhance the resources available and provided to patients and families. Maintains standards for professional practice and regulatory compliance and is responsible for daily operations, budget management, staffing, patient safety, customer service and performance and improvement efforts.

Position Duties

  1. Manages the daily operations of the Child Life Department by monitoring quality and effectiveness of work flow, processes, and problem resolution to ensure optimum efficiency and compliance with Standards of Practice and regulatory and licensing requirements.
    • Provides leadership, prompt problem resolution, and communicates plan of action to staff and volunteers in a timely manner.
    • Develops and supervises staff through provision of timely feedback and use of appropriate Human Resource policies and tools to facilitate and ensure the ability of staff to achieve highest level of professional growth and desired performance standards.
    • Interviews, hires, trains, and schedules staff. Repositions staff resources and work assignments as needed.
    • Collaborates with volunteer services for augmentation to program.
  2. Budget Management
    • Evaluates and manages operating and capital budgets.
    • Assists in management and evaluation of variance reports; identifies areas for cost containment.
    • Develops, monitors and manages productivity measures and other pertinent data.
    • Collaborates with the Foundation office regarding department needs, fundraising events, donations, and grants.
  3. Strategic program development
    • Researches and develops new and innovative child life, and family centered care programs that are measurable, outcome-driven, and evidence-based.
    • Collaborates and advocates with other departments to improve the environment and quality of services provided to pediatric patients and families.
    • Develops and implements policies, procedures, goals, standards and practices in alignment with strategic plan.
  4. Quality Management and Compliance
    • Designs, implements, and monitors Quality Improvement initiatives including designing new processes, collecting, measuring, and disseminating data.
    • Complies with all applicable standards and regulations.
  5. Professional Development
    • Maintains professional and technical competency through constantly pursuing knowledge and self-improvement by remaining appraised of child life, pediatric healthcare delivery trends, and family centered care.
    • Ensures professional growth and development of direct reports.
  6. Represents and communicates Child Life practices and psychosocial issues of neonates, infants, children, adolescents, and their families to the organization.
  7. Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
