The Simulation Educator provides operational support for experiential learning for the Sim Center at Phoenix Children’s. This person works in collaboration with program leaders, institution-wide staff, and community partners, to plan, develop, implement, and evaluate simulation-based education activities. The Simulation Educator oversees the development of simulation curriculum and execution of events, as well as the preparation, maintenance, and operations of Sim Center technologies and equipment. This person is responsible for integrating, facilitating, and educating on evidence-based clinical standards and simulation best practices, to enhance the delivery of safe, quality outcomes in the learning environment.
Position Duties
- Plans, implements, and evaluates simulation curriculum, based on evidence using a variety of teaching strategies.
- Serves as a pediatric healthcare content expert to develop and deliver education for pre-licensure student programs supported by the Sim Center.

Facilitates and oversees the execution of simulation events.
- Ensures all participants are oriented to capabilities, limitations, safety & proper use of all simulation manikins, trainers, audio-visual (AV) systems, and equipment.
- Operates manikin and AV controls for simulation events.
- Delivers education to help achieve expected learning outcomes.
- Evaluates and analyzes simulation events to ensure high-quality delivery of simulation-based education.
- Obtains and integrates feedback for scenario improvements.
- Serves as a role-model and/or mentor for debriefing best practices.
- Works collaboratively to train and orientate on principles of simulation and educational techniques.

Assists with administrative tasks to support Sim Center operations.
- Coordinates the scheduling of simulation events and/or preparation meetings.
- Attends relevant meetings for simulation events or Sim Center operations.
- Maintains records of events, including supplies, equipment, evaluations, and attendance.
- Collaborates with other disciplines and departments as a change agent and participates in the evaluation of outcomes.
- Aggregates data for trend analysis.
- Participates in identifying and implementing improvements within program curriculum and department processes.
- Evaluates and revises department policies or procedures as needed.
- Inventory management such as ordering, stocking, and monitoring utilization.

Assists with preparation for simulation events.
- Collaborates with subject matter experts on scenario design and development.
- Completes software programming of simulation scenario.
- Procures supplies and/or equipment to support clinical realism for simulation event.
- Performs physical set up and take down of manikins and equipment.

Participates in ongoing professional development activities and serves as a role-model and/or mentor for simulation-based education and simulation standards of practice.
- Adheres to simulation standards of best practice, accreditation standards, and organizational policies and procedures.
- Facilitates integration of new technologies, materials, and teaching strategies to enhance participant learning, performance improvement, and/or research within a simulation environment.
- Stays current on operational issues, priorities, and advances in clinical practice standards.
- Participates in dissemination of knowledge and supports professional growth within the department and hospital wide.
- Collaborates with colleagues and community partners to support the departmental strategic plan and ongoing institutional growth.
- Assists with the operation and maintenance of AV media, computers, simulators, task trainers, and other necessary equipment or technologies to support the needs of the department.
- Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
