Position Summary

This position performs diagnostic cardiac sonography examinations and cardiology procedures to provide data for diagnosis of disease and injuries in accordance with all applicable standards, regulations, and licensing requirements.

Position Duties

  1. Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography
    • Performs diagnostic cardiac sonography examinations on patients across the spectrum of congenital and acquired heart disease for interpretation by cardiologist. Determines proper technique and positioning to ensure optimal results in accordance with all applicable standards, protocols and procedures. Performs or assists with transesophageal and transthoracic echoes and performs at least one of the advanced techniques including fetal, 3D, research or stress cardiac sonography as required and per training and expertise.
    • Maintains a safe environment for patients, families, and coworkers while performing all activities of the job.
  2. Documents Preliminary Report
    • Creates a detailed report of sonographer`s impressions to include pertinent medical history, anatomic findings and measurements for presentation to interpreting physician. It may include exam aspects outside sonogram results that may relate to diagnosis or treatment, including, but not limited to, patient reaction to temperature, pressure or movement of transducer, ability to respond to instructions, and movement limitations. Report is clear, concise, and grammatically correct and utilizes appropriate spelling and punctuation.
    • Performs finalizing functions using Syngo and/or Electronic Health Record to facilitate timely and accurate results, charge capture and archival of studies. Takes steps to quickly remedy identified errors and omissions utilizing the chain of command as necessary.
  3. Maintains Professional and Technical Competency
    • Participates in career development and leadership activities to support the function of the lab. Proactively evaluates practices and assists to create and implement changes to increase and enhance the effectiveness of workflow practices. Serves as preceptor to students, fellows and orientees in our program. Attends staff meetings as required to stay up to date on departmental policies and procedures. Participates in and contributes to Phoenix Children`s educational offerings and off-site conferences/seminars; and completes self directed learning via professional journals, texts and appropriate online resources to maintain continuing education credits as required for institutional and personal credentialing.
    • Quality improvement:
    • Participates in quality improvement initiatives and integrates feedback into daily practice.
  4. Care of Professional Environment and Equipment Maintenance
    • Participates in cleaning, re-stocking, re-supplying, and turnover of CardioDiagnostic exam rooms and equipment to provide for efficient, effective, and safe department operations. Enters information in departmental logs as required for documentation.
    • Identifies and troubleshoots malfunctions to ensure continuous proper and safe operations. Reports service needs and preventive maintenance issues as appropriate by utilizing the help desk and biomed service tickets as appropriate. Enters data in departmental logs as required.
  5. Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.

Position Qualifications

Education

1. Graduation from a CAAHEP or ACCSC accredited cardiac sonography program or equivalent or 10 years experience in cardiac ultrasound.

1. 3 years full time pediatric cardiac sonography.

2. Endorsement from the clinical leadership at Phoenix Children`s Hospital with input from the medical director(s).

Certifications / Licenses / Registries
Do you meet this requirement?
1. ARDMS RDCS-Pediatric (RDCS PE) or CCI Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS).

2. Current BLS certification for Healthcare Provider from the American Heart Association.

3. Membership to professional societies (e.g. ASE, SDMS, AIUM, etc.)
