Position Summary

This position directs and guides, through operational oversight and supervision, the Hospitals Medical Education Department. Ensures compliance with required governing, licensing, and financial regulations and requirements, and mandatory reporting to federal, state, and all other applicable entities. Provides direct oversight of the medical education team to support the functions, both administrative and financial of all program operations. Conducts contract and budget negotiations with other academic institutions with oversight from the Chief Academic Officer. Works with the Chief Financial Officer as appropriate.

Position Duties

  1. Plans, develops, implements, and evaluates all Medical Education Institutional and Program policies, procedures, and processes; conducts annual audits to ensure compliance with ACGME, ACCME, LCME and all other appropriate Institutional and Program accreditation requirements. Maintains professional relationship/memberships necessary to a current knowledge of and relationship with the ACGME, AHME, Arizona Board of Medicine and all other relevant agencies.
  2. Directly supervises and oversees daily operations of the Department of Medical Education, including medical education staff, student, residency and fellowship coordinators. Develops and supervises medical education staff through provision of timely feedback and use of appropriate Human Resource policies and tools to facilitate and ensure the ability of staff to achieve highest level of professional growth and desired performance standards.
  3. Monitors compliance with and changes in accreditation requirements, maintains institutional and program accreditation documentation.
  4. Ensures that all record keeping in the department conforms to the standards of ACGME, CHGME, HRSA, - and other regulatory agencies. Maintains documentation for ACGME, LCME, ACCME and DNV institutional and program requirements for residency and fellowship programs, student programs and continuing medical education programs.
  5. Prepares IRIS Report, CHGME audits and other various required annual reports for CHGME, HRSA, IRIS, AHCCCS and other governmental agencies.
  6. Responsible for Resident/Fellow orientation, employment contracts and contract renewals, ensuring compliance with all applicable human resources policies and procedures related to medical education. Work directly with Human Resources, Occupational Health and Risk Management to ensure all Hospital requirements are met.
  7. Manages the application process of new fellowship programs, including justification, priority rating, timeliness, budgetary estimates, funding, and completion of Program Information Forms.
  8. Coordinates preparation for the ACGME Clinical Learning Environment Review site visits, and Program Self Studies. Monitors citations and responses, corrective actions and follow up on recommendations.
  9. Manages the operational activities by guiding and supporting staff as well as acting as liaison with other areas of the institution. Develops creative and innovative processes to improve efficiency for the department. Directs, plans, and implements ongoing changes in department as required by changes in volume, finances, and other influences. Prepares and monitors medical education budgets, managing expenses and other related costs.
  10. Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
